Mt. Robson, from Mt. Resplendent by Ansel AdamsMount Robson and the Making of Ansel Adams
HistoricalThe Canadian Rockies left Ansel awestruck. In letters to his wife, Virginia, he described the overwhelming scale of the landscape and at the center of the luminous panorama stood Mount Robson itself, the highest peak in the range. Unlike the luminous granite walls of the Sierra Nevada Adams knew so intimately, the Canadian landscape struck him as harsher, wilder, and less predictable.

HistoricalRemembered today as one of the most important documentary photographers in American history, Dorothea Lange's photographs of migrant workers, struggling families, and displaced communities during the Great Depression have become inseparable from our collective memory of the era. Yet her photographs are not merely records of hardship; they insist that their subjects be seen with dignity, individuality, and compassion.

Half Dome, Merced River, Winter Original Gelatin Silver Photograph by Ansel AdamsHalf Dome, Merced River, Winter: A Photograph, a Provenance, a Friendship
HistoricalSome photographs carry with them not only the vision of the artist which inhabits them, but the presence of those who stood just outside of the frame. Half Dome, Merced River, Winter is among Ansel Adams’ most iconic images. It is a study in contrast and clarity, the dark mass of granite rising above a Merced River softened by snow and winter light.
